6 Tips for Hosting a Successful Moving Sale

Moving sale with a multi-generational family shopping and smiling. Are you preparing to move and looking for methods to cut costs? One option is to organize a moving sale! This might be an ideal way of earning some extra cash and getting rid of some unwanted items at the same time. But how can you ensure the success of your relocation sale? If you stick to the advice given here, you’ll have no trouble hosting a successful moving sale.

Plan for your moving sale

Make sure you give yourself adequate time to organize and carry out your relocation sale. If you reside in a rental house, you’ll need permission from your landlord before planning any major events. You can expand the scope of your sale by inviting others to take part in it. More is better, right?

Spread the word and advertise

It is important to advertise your moving sale to be a success. Make sure your friends and neighbors know about your moving sale by advertising it on social media, putting up fliers in public places, or even creating an online ad listing it on sites like Craigslist. On the day of the sale, put up directional signs that will lead people straight to your location. Preferably, use a brightly colored poster board to increase visibility.

Have a variety of fair-priced items

Spend some time learning what similar things are selling for before the sale day, and then decide on prices for your items. If you overestimate the value of your items, you risk having a disappointing moving sale. You want to ensure that you receive a fair price and that your items will sell. Make sure you have more than simply clothes and books for sale, as having a wider selection will attract more customers. Generally, having more products available attracts more customers.

Prepare Your Space

Make sure people can easily browse your products without bumping into each other. Moreover, having adequate tables or racks on hand can help you showcase your items appropriately. To increase visibility, try putting everything near a sidewalk, at the end of your driveway, or in your yard. Having your sale inside a garage may seem appealing, but if customers cannot see the items for sale, they won’t stop to look at them.

Accept Multiple Forms of Payment

Make sure you are ready to accept a variety of payment methods, such as credit cards and even online transactions like Venmo. Be sure to withdraw enough money from the bank in small notes and other changes well in advance of the day of your sale.

Clean Up Afterward

After the sale is over, you should have a plan in place for getting rid of any unsold items. If you do not intend to keep any items, pack them and deliver them to a donation center. You might even be able to arrange for large goods to be hauled up. In that case, make sure to plan the pick-up as far in advance as you can. You should immediately package up any remaining products you intend to keep or sell online to avoid any scratches or scuffs. At the end of your sale, don’t forget to collect and remove all of your fliers and signage.

If you use these guidelines, you should have a much better moving sale!
